Exploring the Agave Fields: A Journey into Tequila
Touring the tequila fields—let’s go! We set off from Guadalajara, driving over an hour to our eagerly anticipated tour at the Sauza Tequila plant. The excitement was palpable! Along the way, the landscape was breathtaking, with light olive-green fields stretching as far as the eye could see. You could see fields in various stages of growth—some newly planted and others ripe for harvest.
As eager as we were to dive into our discovery, we learned that it takes a remarkable seven years for an agave plant to reach maturity. That’s a significant commitment for the farmers! Most of the harvest we witnessed was done by hand, which left me in awe. It was scorching hot outside, and I couldn’t help but think how challenging it must be to work in those fields. Collecting just one plant looked like an arduous task. Be sure to check out the photos to appreciate their impressive size!

Upon arrival, we learned that eight essential steps transform the agave plant into the beloved spirit we know. Key processes include grinding the agave, fermentation, and bottling.
As an accredited facility for tequila production, Sauza takes pride in its advanced automation, yet maintaining the quality of its product remains the top priority. It was impressive to see how technology enhances efficiency while preserving the traditional craftsmanship that has made Sauza a respected name in Tequila for years to come.
