Gananoque: Embark on the Delights of the 1000 Island

Gananoque, 1000 Islands Vacation

Gananoque: Embark on the Delights of the 1000 Island: Upon my arrival at Gananoque Inn and Spa, I was greeted with a warm welcome that stayed with us throughout our whole experience.
This recently renovated inn offers spacious, updated, and immaculate rooms. I particularly adored the homely ambiance and the refreshing stand-up shower. The friendly staff provided all the information about the inn, including its spa facilities. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to indulge in a massage. Moreover, each room includes breakfast, which you can enjoy on a patio, offering a fantastic view.

2. Riva Restaurant: A Taste of Italy

We found Riva Restaurant, an elegant Italian eatery just a short walk from our hotel. We were excited about the evening, featuring a bottle of amazing Italian wine. Our dining journey started with escargot in garlic butter and delightful homemade bread, setting the stage for an exceptional dining experience.

Before discussing the main courses, let’s take a moment to appreciate their beautiful patio. It’s nestled under big trees, with a peaceful waterfall and a charming rock garden. They also have another patio in the front, offering open-air dining.

Now, onto the highlight of the night—the seafood pasta. It was so delicious that we wanted more. When we thought our dining adventure had peaked, our attentive server insisted we try their irresistible Creme Brûlée. It was a total delight! Make sure you come to Riva with a big appetite; it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

3. CityCruise: Exploring the Islands by Boat

We began our day with a special 3-hour CityCruise tour. Although the weather was a bit unpredictable, necessitating an extra layer, we set off on an engaging adventure. I captured some stunning photos of the iconic Boldt Castle and the charming homes throughout the 1000 Islands. Touring the area by boat provides a delightful way to appreciate the grandeur of the islands, catch glimpses of beautiful birds, admire the striking homes, and observe other ships gliding gracefully by. Don’t forget to visit the onboard canteen, which offers coffee, snacks, and adult beverages.

After returning to land, it was time to continue exploring the city.

4. Gananoque Inn and Spa: A Spectacular Sunset Dinner
The Gananoque Inn and Spa boasts great, updated spacious rooms and an excellent patio, perfect for enjoying a picturesque sunset dinner while witnessing the arrival of the CityCruise boats at the dock. During our dinner, I talked with the staff, who revealed that the dining room was their upcoming renovation project. The restaurant will offer a phenomenal dining experience if the rooms are any indication.

5. Thousand Islands Playhouse: A Theatrical Delight

Are you a fan of local theatre featuring talented national actors? If so, the Thousand Islands Playhouse is a must-visit. I was thoroughly captivated by a mystery story featuring the iconic Sherlock Holmes.

The performances were quick-witted, entertaining, and had me laughing throughout. During intermission, I stumbled upon their newly expanded patio, which provided a serene and enchanting view of the river. It’s the perfect spot to relax and immerse yourself in the surroundings.

This curated gallery showcases a wide array of unique and limited pieces available for purchase, including an exclusive private collection.

For a delectable ice cream treat, head to Pump House Creamery. Situated next to the fountain water park with a delightful view, this spot is perfect for indulging in delicious ice cream while enjoying the company of friendly ducks.

Additionally, the creamery is conveniently located near the Tourist Information Center, Town Hall, and various restaurants and breweries. Please take advantage of the opportunity to explore the town’s diverse range of shops, each offering its selection of memorable souvenirs.

7. Helicopter Tour: A Thrilling Adventure with Fly 1000 Islands

Would I consider booking a helicopter tour? Let me tell you; it’s an experience you will remember. The sheer exhilaration of takeoff and the awe-inspiring sights from above is extraordinary. Our skilled team ensured our safety and facilitated the capture of breathtaking images of the area, including the magnificent Boldt Castle.

The journey left me speechless, mainly as we circled the castle, providing a unique perspective of its grandeur. My first helicopter tour won’t be my last, and I plan to return in the fall to witness the vibrant foliage. p.s. for the 5-hour tour, a passport is required.

8. Lavern’s Eatery
Before leaving Gananoque, we stopped in at Lavern’s eatery for brunch; this unique restaurant served a brunch-style menu with many unique offerings, but that fried egg, avocado, and bacon toast with tomato jam was delicious after Lavern’s stop-in at Life on the River, indoor or patio seating is offered,  with friendly staff and quality clothing and souvenirs to take home!
