The first sunset was incredible. It appeared unexpectedly and painted the sky a beautiful shade of pink. We felt lucky to witness such a magical moment. The last two images capture how swiftly the vibrant colours faded into the serene blue hour.

Day 1- Exploring Lyon’s Markets: A Wealth of Treasure

After a delightful breakfast at a cozy coffee shop, where we enjoyed a cup of coffee and a baguette sandwich, we headed to the markets for our first exploration and souvenir shopping round.

We began our market adventure at a mixed fruit, vegetables, meats, and cheese market near our hotel. Then, we ventured to the main section of the island for one of our favourite farmers’ markets.

Next, we wandered into Old Lyon to browse the antique and artist markets. The markets encourage people to move around the city, spreading wealth to each “quartier.”

Exploring Lyon’s Rich History by Boat

Lyon Boat Tours offers two types: historical and nature tours. We chose the history tour, guided by a knowledgeable local who highlighted significant homes, areas, and their stories.

The tour company provided fascinating historical facts about the area and its former inhabitants. Despite the heat, the tour lasted over an hour and was well worth it.

The lower level of the tour route provided relief from the sun, allowing us to cool off along the way. Old Lyon’s history is captivating, and I would love to return and explore it further.

Staying at the Greet Hotel

The Greet Hotel is a charming, well-priced establishment that ensured every aspect of our stay was delightful. From the attentive staff to the prime location, its inviting ambiance and thoughtful amenities make it an excellent choice for travellers.

We were particularly impressed by the Greet Hotel’s commitment to sustainability, making it a standout destination in Lyon. If you’re looking for the oldest brasserie in Lyon and one of the largest in Europe, the famous Brasserie George is next door to the Greet Hotel.

Day -2 Exploring the Old City Centre in Lyon

A Walk Through History Along the River Saône

The Old City Centre in Lyon, nestled along the River Saône quayside, is a tourist treasure trove. Here, you can discover authentic restaurants serving exquisite Beaujolais wines, marvel at unique medieval buildings, and stroll down charming cobblestone roads.

Discovering Hidden Gems

As someone who loves exploring on foot, I highly recommend walking around to soak in the unique architectural details of this historic area. The Old City Centre is truly ancient, with narrow streets at the bottom and wider ones at the top, offering a fascinating glimpse into the past and a chance to feel enlightened.

Whether you’re a history buff, a food lover or love wandering through picturesque streets, the Old City Centre in Lyon has something for everyone. Enjoy the cooling-off stations and immerse yourself in this beautiful city’s rich heritage and vibrant culture.

Dinner at Il Palio Pizzeria

A Taste of Italy in Lyon

A stop at Il Palio Pizzeria, an Italian restaurant, was a great choice. Homemade wood-oven pizza was just what the day needed. A family-run business that puts a lot of love into their food.

Excellent service and a lovely, helpful family member who spoke English to us made the difference. The char on the edges of the pizza was delicious. I’m still craving this meat pizza!
