24 hours in Moncton isn’t just a stop along the Trans-Canada Highway — it’s a destination bursting with flavour, creativity, and maritime charm. Whether you’re in town for a weekend or passing through, here’s how to make the most of one perfect day in this New Brunswick gem.
Why I Love Moncton
Moncton will always hold a special place in my heart — I was born just 30 minutes from the city, and much of my family still calls this area home. Every visit feels like reconnecting with my roots.
What I love most about Moncton is its blend of small-city comfort and big-hearted creativity. It’s a place where murals turn alleys into art galleries, where local cafés remember your name, and where community spirit runs deep. The city may be growing fast, but it hasn’t lost its Maritime warmth.
As a photographer, I’m always drawn to the changing light along the Petitcodiac River and the way the city’s colours come alive at sunset. Moncton is genuine, grounded, and full of stories waiting to be told — and that’s what keeps me coming back.
Stay: The Canvas Hotel

📍 55 Queen Street, Moncton.
Start your day at The Canvas Hotel, a modern downtown stay that blends art and comfort. Sip your morning coffee at Bar 55 Café and catch the soft morning light through the windows. It’s perfect for a few candid travel shots before heading out.
Morning Stroll & Murals
Wander Main Street and discover Moncton’s colourful murals and local shops. Swing by the Capitol Theatre for a bit of architectural magic. It’s one of the most photographed heritage buildings in the city.
24 Hours in Moncton, a must Lunch: Atelier Tony (Dieppe)
📍 50 Granite Dr, Dieppe.
Cross over to Dieppe for a stylish Bruch-Lunch at Atelier Tony, where local ingredients and creative plating take center stage. It’s a visual feast for both your lens and your appetite. Pop in next door for French patisserie.

Afternoon Adventure: The Tidal Bore & Riverfront Trail
Witness the Tidal Bore, a rare natural phenomenon where the river reverses flow with the incoming tide. Then walk or bike along the Riverfront Park Trail, capturing golden reflections of downtown Moncton at sunset.
Dinner & Drinks: Gahan House + Happy Craft Brewing

Wrap up your day with seafood and local fare at Gahan House. Make your way for a laid-back pint at Happy Craft Brewing. Both spots are local favourites where conversation flows as easily as the beer.
Photography Notes
Moncton rewards those who look for light and colour. Some of my favourite photo moments here include:
- The vibrant downtown murals, each one telling a story of community and creativity.
- The Capitol Theatre at dusk, when its classic façade glows under the city lights.
- Reflections along the Petitcodiac River, especially during golden hour.
- Rooftop cityscapes from The Canvas Hotel, where you can watch the skyline fade into the horizon.
Whether you’re capturing architecture, art, or atmosphere, Moncton’s mix of heritage and modern energy makes it a naturally photogenic city.

From May to October, the city buzzes with festivals, outdoor patios, and perfect weather for exploring. Autumn brings beautiful fall colours, while winter offers a quieter pace and cozy cafés downtown.
Even with just 24 hours, you’ll experience a mix of culture, great food, and outdoor views. For a deeper dive into the region, plan 3–4 days to include nearby spots like Fundy National Park or Hopewell Rocks.
Start with Atelier Tony in Dieppe for an unforgettable brunch, enjoy dinner at Gahan House, and end with a pint at Happy Craft Brewing. Don’t forget to try local favourites like seafood chowder, Acadian dishes, and Moncton’s craft beer scene.
