A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience

Cape Spear, just a 15-minute drive from St. John’s, is an incredible spot for whale watching, especially during capelin season. Standing at Canada’s easternmost point, I watched two whales frolicking in the waters. They splashed and played, putting on a mesmerizing show. We left for dinner at an unfortunate time. Later, we discovered that one of the whales had breached right after we departed!

More Than Just Whales

Cape Spear isn’t just about whale watching. The area offers stunning walking trails, breathtaking coastal views, and the iconic Cape Spear Lighthouse. Enjoy an ice cream cone and the panoramic scenery, or soak in the crisp ocean air. Cape Spear delivers an unforgettable experience.

After the tour, we explored their mini aquarium and had a fascinating look at local fish and shellfish. What’s even more special? At the end of the season, the creatures are returned to their natural habitat. And, of course, no trip to Bulls Bay is finished without stopping by Tinker’s Ice Cream. Enjoy a sweet treat while soaking in the picturesque view of the charming fishing village.

St. Vincent’s Beach: A Hidden Gem for Whale Watching

Fog, Waves, and Majestic Whales

St. Vincent’s Beach provided one of my journey’s most memorable whale encounters. Despite the thick fog, the challenging walk along the shore was worth it. Majestic whales surfaced right before us. They offered a show we won’t soon forget.

A Seafood Lover’s Paradise

We spent the day whale watching. Afterwards, we headed to The Celtic Notch (update: now closed), just 20 minutes from the beach. This hidden gem serves some of the freshest seafood you’ll ever taste. Every bite reminded us of Newfoundland’s incredible culinary scene. From ocean-fresh fish to hearty portions, The Celtic Notch is a must-visit for food lovers.

I had the pleasure of joining Captain Bob from Trinity Echo Tours again. H was the first person to introduce me to whale watching years ago, and once again, he did not disappoint.

This time, I finally observed a breaching whale! The sheer size and power of the humpback left me in awe. I was so mesmerized that I didn’t even capture a photo. This moment solidified why Trinity remains one of my favourite whale-watching spots in Newfoundland.

Why Choose Captain Bob?

Captain Bob’s hospitality and skill make his tours a standout experience. He not only provides thrilling wildlife encounters but also offers insight into Newfoundland’s history and ecosystem.
